Boy, cherry sodas are popular on this thing lately, aren’t they? PepsiCo has been busy with their “limited edition flavors” these days. With Wild Cherry Pepsi finally getting a branding update to match the current Pepsi logotype (much to my chagrin), Pepsi’s decided to introduce a short-run flavor along with it. This short run flavor being Pepsi Cherry Vanilla. Sold in both regular (HFCS) and Diet varieties, it’s getting the standard Pepsi eight weeks to live. The roots of this flavor were actually around several years ago as Diet Pepsi Jazz, which used the cherry vanilla flavor. At the time, I couldn’t get a regular version, so I skipped it. Since I can now get it in regular, I decided to give it a try.
I picked up a 20 ounce bottle at Hannaford’s during my regular grocery shopping to give it a try. The flavor is basically wild cherry pepsi with a little vanilla extract in it. If you like Wild Cherry Pepsi and liked Vanilla Pepsi when it was popular a few years ago, this should be right up your alley. The only way they could make it better is to use real sugar and not HFCS. Listening, Pepsi?
Then there’s the subject of Pepsi’s limited time promotions. We’ve already had a bunch this year, being Throwback, the Dewmocracy, now this extra Cherry stuff… I’m getting a little tired of the promotion only rigamarole. Introduce a flavor and let it get some market share.
